This time we are making a simple electrical circuit. With this circuit the little ones will be able to have their first contact with electricity. The circuit we are going to make consists of a battery, a light bulb, a switch and some wires. This circuit will be useful to have a first contact with electricity.
In our case, once we have made the circuit, we have emphasised these simple and important concepts, in order to introduce them to the world of electrical energy.
- The battery is the one that generates electricity
- Electricity flows through the cables
- For electricity to circulate, the circuit must be closed.
- The wires can be touched because they are surrounded by plastic which is insulating.
- The wires are attached to metallic elements that conduct electricity.
- It is important to realise that this experiment can be done happily because of the low voltage of the battery, but electricity at home is totally different and cannot be touched!
HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT
The first step is to get the materials. There are kits that already come with a small bulb, battery, switch and wires. You can buy them at Alquera.com
- Take 5 pieces of wire, and peel off the ends using scissors.
- Connect each of the wires, from the battery to the bulb. From the bulb to the switch. From the switch to the battery. In this case you can do it without protection due to the low voltage of the circuit. In case of a voltage circuit this point would be different.
- Have fun turning the light on and off.
- You can also add other components to the circuit, such as an alarm, a buzzer...
